Minutes, Improvement Committee, 12th April 1899. named from “Willowfield", a residence that formerly stood on the Woodstock Road (John J. Marshall). According to Keith Haines (East Belfast...) William Mullan the mayor of Belfast in 1866 lived at Willowfield House. "The assistant city surveyor reported receipt of a request from Mr WM Pollock, the developer of property adjourning, a new street between Willowfield Gardens and Jocelyn Gardens named Jocelyn Gardens, to have the new street renamed Willowfield Gardens in order to avoid confusion in the numbering of the new premises with existing premises. On his recommendation, the committee acceded to the request". (21st August 1956).
