According to Haines and Cooke in their book (East Belfast Paintings and Shories from Harbour to Hills) in the late 18th century the area of the current Stormont was known as Storm Mount and was owned by Samuel Jackson. The name Stormont Mews off Castleview Road was proposed by Mr. Dermot McCloskey and accepted at the Health and Environmental Services Committee, Monday, 12th October, 1998.
