Although Stewartstown Road is an important arterial route, it is named after a place which has disappeared, to all intents and purposes. It was a small rural settlement focussed on Stewartstown House in the 19th and early 20th century, located in the townland of Killeaton. It was demolished for the re-development of the Twinbrook area. It should be noted that Stewartstown Road continues well beyond the former location of Stewartstown House.
