Named either after Sefton in Lancashire or, perhaps more likely, after one of the holders of the title Earl of Sefton. Sefton Park is also the name of a public park in Liverpool and a suburb of the city in that vicinity. See also Altcar Court.
Sefton Park and Sefton Drive are not the only streets in this area with a connection to Liverpool and Merseyside. There is also Aigburth Park nearby, apparently named after another suburb of Liverpool. All these names were given in the 1930s.
Resolved that the name ‘Sefton Park’ be approved for a new street situated off Pim’s Avenue on the property of Mr James Mawhinney (Improvement Committee, 11th February 1936).
