This street gets its name from Lord Palmerston who was Secretary for Foreign Affairs in Queen Victoria's reign. He was also Prime Minister 1855-58 and 1859-65. "On the recommendation of the assistant city surveyor, the committee acceded to an application of messers F&S. Ferguson for permission to name a new street off Palmerston Rd, Palmerston Park.
