"What's In a Name? I note that the Belfast Corporation's Improvement Committee have changed the name Marina Parade to Marina Park. Just why the alteration was made is known only to the residents. who requested it. If the thoroughfare had been a "street" previously, I could have understood it, for there seems to be an aversion from that appellation. Even "avenue" is not as popular as it used to be. Most of our new byways have, been, given the "dignity" of "drive", "park", "crescent", "grove", or "gardens" so that the city now abounds with such names. In time, however, public taste will probably revert to the old-fashioned "street." Some of the most select thoroughfares in London have that name and, incidentally, many wealthy and well-known Londoners live in a " mews." THE ROAMER. (Belfast News-Letter - Thursday 25 August 1938).
