Lombard Street which according to Patton was "laid out in the 1870s on the site of 'two old tumble-down entries', Leggs Lane and Caddell's Entry.Legg's Lane was torn down to make way for Lombard Street. “Mr. Gaffikin, in moving the adoption of the report, called attention to a paragraph stating that the committee, on the application of Messrs. Gourlie and other owners of property in the ‘new street between High Street and Rosemary Street’, have approved of that street being name ‘Lombard Street’. This was something new in Belfast, and nobody would object if this Lombard Street became as famous as its great namesake in London”. Belfast Morning News - Monday 03 October 1870.
