This street was marked but unnamed on one of Phillips' plans (1685). It was called Thomas Street in 1815, and then Little Patrick Street c. 1830. It runs parallel to Great Patrick Street and the two streets were once connected by a narrow passage called Patrick's Lane. The name Thomas Street was later applied to a different street nearby, which retains it today.
