Probably named after the townland of Lenadoon, near Easky, Co. Sligo, and the associated headland of Lenadoon Point. There is a theme of coastal place-names from the West of Ireland noticeable in the street-names of this neighbourhood of West Belfast. Several of these are named after headlands, e.g Horn Drive, Mizen Gardens, Rinnalea Close, Benwee Park. Lenadoon is derived from Ir. Léana Dúna, 'meadow of the fort' (logainm.ie). However, in Belfast this name has been analysed as Léana an Dúin, which combines the same two basic elements in a slightly different grammatical structure.
Lenadoon Avenue and Lenadoon Walk both appear in the 1967 list of Belfast streets.
