According to Patton, Gordon Street is shown on 1791 map as Bullers Row and as Gordon Street on 1819 map. He believes it may have been renamed after John Gordon, an eighteenth century agent of Lord Donegall.
The 1808 Belfast Directory indicates that Gordon Street had been called Buttler's-row before the name was changed.
