The name Glengoland seems only to appear in this group of streets. The second element occurs in a number of different place-names, such as Drumgoland, Co. Fermanagh, Tirgoland and Ballymagoland, Co. Derry. In all cases the final -d is intrusive as these are anglicised forms of Ir. gabhlán, 'fork'. There are other anglicisations, such as Golan, Co. Tyrone. It is difficult to connect Glengoland Avenue with specific one of these place-names.
