from classical myth, Egeria was a nymph or goddess who a fountain in Africa, Thither Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome, was said to have repaired to hold converse with her, obtaining from her the laws which he promulgated, and directions for the worship of the gods. The name is also used in astronony, zoology, and botany, (Belfast Street Names. John J. Marshall) The minutes of the Town Improvement Committee 25 October 1893 indicate how six new streets off the Blackstaff road (later to be called Donegall Road) have been named: “Fortuna street”, “Egeria street, “Daphne street”, “Pandora street”, “Euterpe street”, and “Thalia street”.
