In a register compiled in 1302 Dundela is found as the name, apparently, of the ancient church of Knock, which for at least three centuries has lain in ruins, adjoining the Knock graveyard. The name Dundela is believed to be derived from a prehistoric earthwork in the neighbourhood of the ruins.
