College Park Avenue may take its name from Queen's College which opened in 1849, it did not become Queen's University until 1908 or it may take its name from the Presbyterian College which was opened on 5th December 1853 for the training of candidates for ministry close to Queen’s College.
College Park Avenue in one part had been called Rugby Avenue and in the other Sterling Street. "That the Council be recommended to change the name Sterling Avenue to College Park Avenue". (7th December 1887). "The surveyor reported that all the owners of property in the portion of Rugby Avenue from Carmel Street to College Park Avenue had consented to the proposal to change the name of that street. Resolved that the Council be recommended to change the name of that portion of the street to College Park Avenue". (Improvement Committee, 16th January 1906).
