Part of a small cluster of streets with geographical names from around Carlingford Lough, also including Omeath Street, Greenore Street, Killowen Street and (on the other side of Woodstock Road) Newry Street. Carlingford is a heritage town, founded by Vikings and the name is of Norse origin. King John's Castle was built by Hugh de Lacy in the late 12th century and takes its name from the visit of King John in 1210. The town has several other historic buildings of the Anglo-Norman era.
