Burghley Mews

Burghley Mews
BT5
Ballycloghan
Year approved: 2006

A short cul-de-sac off Kings Road, east Belfast (BT5); name approved by Belfast City Council on 9 January 2006 under the heading Naming of Streets and Numbering of Properties: “The Committee approved the undernoted applications for the naming of streets in the City, which did not conflict with existing approved street names and to which the Royal Mail had offered no objections".  The entry appears as: “Burghley Mews — Off Kings Road, BT5 — Dingles Builders.”

It would appear the name Burghley is a prestige-style borrowing from English estate nomenclature—with Mews, denoting a compact, enclosed residential streetn;  o evidence of local historical, topographical, or landownership connection.
